Ardleigh Pre-School is a non profit making company which is also a registered Charity. Whilst the day to day running of the Pre-School is the responsibility of the manager and the staff, overall responsibility for the management of the Company lies with the Board of Trustees. This Board is familiarly known as the Committee and these members are by default also directors of the Company.
The Committee can change every year as children begin or leave the Pre-School. In order for the Pre-School to continue to run it needs as many parents as possible to get involved and help with its running, by either standing on the committee or helping in other ways such as fundraising.
Pre-School Members
Membership of the Pre-School is divided into two kinds:-
Family Membership: is open to parents or guardians of all children who attend the Pre-School. Each family shall count as one Member and shall have one vote in the General Meetings of the Pre-School.
Affiliate Membership: shall be open to those individuals, persons or other bodies interested in supporting the Objects of the Pre-School. Affiliate Membership shall carry one vote in General Meetings of the Pre-School.
Being a Member allows you to vote on the interests of the Pre-School at any General Meetings that are held, be eligible to stand for election to the Committee, and to elect the management Committee. Being a Member gives you the opportunity to ensure the Pre-School is delivering its aims.
All Members must complete an application form, for the Pre-School to keep an official register of all Members. All Members of the Pre-School will be bound by the Pre-School’s terms and conditions, know as the Articles of Association, and full details can be accessed under the parental log-in/committee log-in areas on this website.
Committee/Trustees/Directors
As Members you will be eligible to stand for election to the Committee, should you wish to do so, giving you the opportunity to make a real difference to how your child’s setting is managed. There are many roles within the Committee, each with its own level of commitment, therefore allowing you to manage how involved you become.
All Committee Members are by default Trustees of the charity and Directors of the company.
Our governing documents require that 60% of the Committee should be current parents, so it is important that parents give their full support. Becoming a Committee Member can be very rewarding as you are able to influence the future of the setting and support the great works that are already happening in our Pre-School.
So What Now?
Every year we hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and invite all Members to attend. This is the time we appoint our Committee (as Trustees & Directors). We must have 5 Members in attendance (or 30% of the total Members – whichever is greater) present in person to constitute a quorum i.e. if we do not have Members attend we cannot conduct the vote.
This years AGM is to be held on:
Wednesday 18th January 2012, 7.45 p.m. at Ardleigh Village Hall (Committee Room).
In summary, our Committee are responsible for:-
If you are interested in joining our Committee please speak to our Chairperson who will be pleased to hear from you.
